There has been an outbreak of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (HFM) in the elementary school. It's not as serious as it sounds, but it is quite contagious among children.  HFM is a virus that causes sores in the childrens' mouth. The sores are so bad that the kids can hardly open their mouths or speak. Adults usually don't get this disease. Last week, school was closed for two days so that it could be disinfected. Then we also had two days off for Chinese New Years, so basically I had 4 days off school plus the weekend. =) HFM broke out again this week. There are at least 4 confirmed cases of HFM in the elementary school, but administrators decided not to close the school because this outbreak occurred during the break.

It's funny that I actually got sick this week too. It's definitely not HFM, but I had a fever of 101 degrees, abdominal pains, and all that good stuff. My teacher let me go home and I skipped school today too. It took so much energy to go out and walk to the pharmacy, which is across this huge road and inside the gi-normous mall. I know the feeling now that teachers go through when they still go to school when they're sick. When I got up in the morning on the first day I was sick, I contemplated about not going in. But then, I remembered the lessons that I had planned and how I had them with me and not at school, so my cooperating teacher wouldn't really have plans for the class, although I knew she was completely capable of coming up with something last minute. Well no matter what, back to school tomorrow.

Here are some pictures from my weekend get-away to Phuket.
Beautiful Karon Beach - absolutely clear and calm waters ^^

The resort's pool overlooks into the Phuket mountains. So gorgeous.

On the first day it snowed, my house was 49 degrees!!
My mom said we should sue my dad for not turning on the heat.

My dad ignored this comment and instead started to strut his stuff like a model on a runway. This is the same man who used a beach umbrella to fend off the rain and the one who sat by a charging cellphone for 2 hours waiting for the red light to go green.

I wanted to add music to the video file, but I lack some skills.

My cousin from Korea is staying with us until January. I'm away at school during the weekdays, but when I come home, she always has funny stories about my parents. Here's one about my dad....

I kind of took over my mom's car because I need it for school down in Trenton. So my parents are surviving on one car. My dad drives my mom to work in the morning and he used to pick her up when she called. However, her hours have gotten so weird and crazy that my dad decided to drop off her car aroun 5-6pm and walk home from her office. Then she could drive home whenever she was finished. Her office is only 3 miles away and my dad is a big work out guy. He runs at least 2 miles everyday and enjoys taking this walk. So it all works out. Props to a man over 60!

So recently, it's been raining. One day when he walked back from her office he got drenched because he had such a small umbrella. The next day, it was raining again. As my dad is using his tools in the garage, he  finds this huge umbrella. He's thinking, "Man, if I used this, I won't get wet when I walk back." So he uses the huge umbrella on his way back from dropping off the car.

The next night at dinner, this conversation ensues between my parents.

Dad: My right arm is so sore that I can't raise it up.
Mom: Why?
Dad: The umbrella I used yesterday didn't have a handle so I had to hold it up with two hands and it was so heavy.
Mom: Which umbrella did you use?
Dad: The big rainbow colored one I found in the garage.
Mom: The beach umbrella?

Imagine an old Asian man carrying a beach umbrella with two hands on a rainy day. He's so naive, but at least he stayed dry. ^^

::note:: I have to start off by saying that I really love my friend and roommate Lil. She really takes all of my weird moments in stride. Everytime I get delirious, she doesn't get upset, but enjoys it or ignores it haha. For all the times I ignore her and scare her, she's always there, never getting fully mad or upset. We're always laughing at ourselves or each other. But, I think this is one moment where I can't stop laughing at all. Here's my story tited -

A Piece of Roommate Love . . .

One night, Esther happens to have her camera not only out, but on and working while her unsuspecting roommate Lillian is in the bathroom. With the door slightly ajar and a dresser with space for a camera, Esther quickly devises a scheming plan to carry out her usual scaring tactics of hiding in the closet to scare Lillian.

While Lillian's at the sink, Esther waits for her prey, thinking about and taking joy at the thought of Lillian's comedic reaction.

Shhhh. She's approaching . . .

Lillian: "Hey Esther. Do you want to...."

BOO! is really all Esther says . . .

Lillian is scared out of her mind and cannot contain the horror of being frightened. So she collapses to the ground, flapping and shaking her arms in panic while Esther watches in utter glee.

While Esther is completely SATISFIED! . . .

Lillian has been completely OWNED!

In the end, Lillian laughs it off, understanding that this is another piece of Esther's LOVE. She also forgives and doesn't hurt Esther for posting these pictures on xanga.  ;]

And the two roommates lived happily ever after.

The End. <3

~~Women can be fascinated by a four hour movie with subtitles wherein the entire plot consists of a man and a woman yearning to have, but never actually having a relationship.  Men HATE that. Men can take maybe 45 seconds of yearning, and they want everybody to get naked.  Followed by a car chase.  A movie called Naked People in Car Chases would do really well among men.~~

Something from my social psych textbook that I thought was so hilarious.
